A chatbot answers questions in a conversation. An AI agent is given a goal and a set of tools, then plans and executes a multi-step task on its own, calling APIs, checking its own results, and adjusting when a step fails, without a human approving each step.

Start with the platform that fits a tool you already use. Teams already on Microsoft 365 usually get the fastest win from Copilot. Teams without that lock-in and no engineering time on hand tend to start with Lindy.ai for its no-code setup, then move to CrewAI or a self-hosted n8n workflow once they need more custom logic than a hosted platform allows.
